Personal Features

Useful personal features for your members to use, to help keep them coming back to your site, to find new friends, and to communicate better with their peers.

• Personal Profiles

  Every member of the site gets a personal profile page where they can provide more information about themselves.

  Personal Profile pages also include a range of information gleaned from elsewhere on the site, like a list of any positions that Member has been elected to within the Association, any clubs or societies that they're in (and any positions they hold within them), details of their recent forum posts and more.

  Members can tailor the site in many ways from within their profiles: subscribing to mailing lists, controlling which forums they want to see topics from, and selecting alternative 'skins' for the website (if available).

  Sabbaticals also have the power to edit individual member's profiles and remove offensive or inappropriate content.

• Private Messenger

  The site features a built-in Instant Messenger, accessible from every page. This feature lets members communicate privately with each other, as well as allowing moderators and administrators to quickly and easily contact members.

  Other Gumbo systems also use the Messenger to inform members of events - such as when another member adds them to their address book.

• Dynamic Address Book

  A powerful, dynamically updating Address Book which allows you to see what information you're sharing with other members at any time.

  You can revoke your details at any point, or quickly share additional details.

  Every time you update any detail in your address book which is shared with a friend, their copy is automatically updated to reflect that change. This is the same technology that allows Clubs and Societies to get instantly up-to-date contact details for all of their members.

• Personal Calendar

  Every member gets a personal calendar page, which allows them to enter events they need to remember. Their calendar also includes reminders about friend's birthdays, and can include shared events posted by their friends.

  Personal calendars also take advantage of the deep integration within Gumbo. So elected reps are alerted to things like council meetings or training sessions, club and society members are automatically notified of club and society events, and all members get notification about key events like AGMs or end of semester balls.
